Why is this cuvée exceptional?
Domaine De La Petite Odyssée has the privilege of unveiling its first vintage.
The colour is dark ruby. On the nose, Antoine the winemaker detects notes of very ripe fruit, fig jam and gingerbread. On the tongue, the attack is quite frank with a nice tension in the mouth. The wine has a superb structure, with lovely tannins that indicate a potential for ageing of almost 15 years, which is counterbalanced by a minty taste that brings freshness.
In order to reveal all its aromas, this wine can be accompanied by a meat-based dish, a spicy dish or an Asian cuisine dish.
The wine is natural and unfiltered. It comes from a specific red soil in the south-west of France, which is made up of rolled pebbles concentrated in ferromanganese. Coming from the Pyrenees, these pebbles were carried by the rivers. They were mixed with sand and clay to create an ideal terroir for the vine. They have the property of storing the sun's heat during the day and releasing it at night.
The grapes are harvested by hand. The wine is matured in a young barrel dating from 2015, which is now hosting its third vintage. The oxygenation of the wine in the barrel will allow it to reveal itself and to reach 14% alcohol. The wine has enough character not to be affected by woody aromas and to reveal an exceptional terroir.
